Survivability:
Let's get this out of the way first: Sylvain comes straight from medieval times, where things like malls and department stores weren't even an actual thing yet, so a lot of this stuff will initially go over his head. Technology is a wild concept? Indoor plumbing as well, so it won't be a stretch to say that Sylvain just won't get it at first and there will be a time where he would definitely be stumbling around a little just trying to take it all in. Sylvain was a nobleman back home, and while he isn't the kind of person to throw his wealth around, he is undoubtedly used to his creature comforts and having things provided to him or he would have easy access to. Everyone performs their best when they have the things they prefer, whether it's a favorite weapon or a favorite item of clothing, and Sylvain is no different. Despite the shortages in all sorts of supplies during the war, Sylvain was still able to fight on the frontlines in full armor and was still afforded the luxury of having meals regularly as one of Faerghus' top generals. What this means is that he'll actually have to adapt now to this new environment to figure out how to secure basic needs like a reliable food source, which isn't something that he's opposed to or that would be impossible for him to do, but having to do that while trying to navigate an entirely different setting will be a little tricky. Sylvain also walks the fine line between self-destruction and caring too much about people, especially when it comes to his friends. Let it be known that he would be the first to lay his life down for Felix, Ingrid, or Dimitri without a second thought, not because of chivalry and honor and all those other notions of duty that their kingdom had force fed them with since they were able to walk, but because he cares about them. They'd been friends since childhood and he'd watched them grow, wiped their tears whenever they cried despite having no one to wipe his own. His friends are so important, much more important than he is and ever will be, and while it's so easy to write it off as dedication, in reality it's his self-loathing and self-destructive tendencies rearing its head again. His friends are as much his lifeline as they are his kryptonite, and it wouldn't be very difficult to use them as a means of manipulating him if it comes down to it.

That said, Sylvain is intelligent despite the way he acts and is fairly adaptable when he needs to be. He is smart and calculating, able to grasp complex magic formulas at a mere glance, expressing his suspicions of the true cause behind the Duscur tragedy despite the story that everyone else believes. One of his favorite gifts is a board game set, and he's seen studying up on Sreng outside of his classes, learning about their history and land despite his duty to defend the border from their invasion. While the new setting will be jarring and disorienting in the beginning, once it's clear that they're on their own, Sylvain will double down and do what he needs to do in order to survive; whether it's exploring anything and everything he can to learn about the environment, or talking to whoever he meets to try and get a better grasp on what he's working with. Sylvain may be awful when it comes to asking for help in regards to his own issues, but he isn't shy about seeking other people out when he needs help in solving a problem (especially when it's to gather information). He's very diplomatic and his general friendly disposition makes it easier for them to want to share what they know. Although he may tend to give off the air that he's just trying to have a good time in a post-apocalyptic mall, in reality he does take the situation seriously, and knowing that there's people from home here will also get him off his ass to do what he can to protect them as well. As stated earlier, it's a double-edged sword: knowing that they're here will give him the motivation to figure this place out and to hopefully find a way back home, but it would also motivate him to put himself in danger if it means ensuring their survival. Furthermore, Sylvain is accustomed to hardship and trauma, having just come off of a five year war where he'd spent most of it on the front lines, so violence and horror has become something of the norm for him.

Powers:
  • Weapons proficiency: Sylvain's main weapon of choice is the lance/spear, and while he isn't Felix "While You Were Partying, I Studied The Blade" Fraldarius who wakes up at four in the morning to destroy training dummies every day, Sylvain is actually quite good at wielding it. He has to be, when he's tasked to defend the border from invading armies from the north; when he's the only one able to wield the Lance of Ruin. His fighting style apparently incorporates "flashy techniques" and "evocative poses", and "always draws attention." Yeah, I hate him too. He's also decent in wielding axes and handling horses.
  • Magic: Sylvain has a budding talent for Reason, which, if cultivated, allows him to access a variety of fire-based elemental spells of increasing strength. He also knows some minor healing spells, which aren't very powerful, but will work in a pinch.
  • Sylvain possesses a minor Crest of Gautier, which sometimes adds a bit of a punch to his strength when he uses combat arts/special attacks in battle.
  • Lance of Ruin: a cool and creepily unsettling lance made from the bones of a beast. As Sylvain is its rightful wielder, he's able to execute the special attack Ruined Sky with it, which is super effective against dragons and flying enemies.
  • Education and upbringing: As heir to House Gautier, Sylvain was given a thorough and elite education both at home and later at Garreg Mach's Officer's Academy that would prepare him for his responsibilities as the next Margrave, i.e.: horsemanship, etiquette, territory management, politics, the whole shebang. Sylvain is good at diplomacy and has a talent for warfare (even if he may hate it), having grown up fighting for Faerghus his whole life. He is skilled in military strategy and battlefield calculations, and is a decent tactician with a focus on avoiding as much casualties as he can. He's the kind of guy who would cut off your supply chains right from the get-go; the guy who would first come for your gold, your lands, and then eventually, your head. He plays the long game.
